Consuming Light (3) is the twenty-fourth chapter of Darbi.
Synopsis[]
Darbi recalls the hatching of his baby twin sisters Meeka and Meena, with Packmother telling him that as their alpha and older brother, it was his responsibility to teach, guide and protect them. In the present, Dolla worriedly tries to rationalise what to do next when she suddenly realises Shay was not present. With them all turning to see Shay looking at the horrific scene, Shay screams out in anguish before going apeshit and wildly clawing at and attacking a nearby Jeet. With Dolla frantically pulling Shay off and trying to calm her down, Peet rounds on Darbi and calls him out, noting that the Banger knew him by name and where to find them. Peet then shouts that Darbi let him live, but Darbi emotionally retorts that the Banger knew him because they were all shouting his name and none of them went after the Banger because they were too busy laughing at him. Peet then asks if Darbi killed them this time, but Darbi dejectedly replies that he wasn't fast enough. At that, Peet tells him Meena's death was all on him, which infuriates Shay. Peet then finishes by saying Meena died because Darbi fucked up as the alpha. Enraged, Darbi tackles Peet to the ground and threatens his life. Screaming out that none of the others did anything to save Meena and it always fell on him, Darbi exclaimed he didn't need them. Telling them all he was going to finish what Todd had started, he calls for Shay to come with him and for the other three not to follow or else. With Shay looking nervously at Dolla, Darbi aggressively told her to hurry up as they left, leaving the other three looking on. From across the other side of the Cow herd, Tuck looked on at the grim scene.
